Before we begin, a quick recap of what I’m up to – in essence, doing up an old Sylvanian Families house week by week and blogging about my progress as I go. You can find previous posts here if you’ve missed any or want to remind yourself of how things have changed!
Last week, I promised more in the way of soft furnishings, those small, luxury items, and furniture, those big, rather necessary items (I hope you can look past the fact that this house will not be equipped with a bathroom, or even a toilet – let’s just imagine that these woodland creatures prefer to return to nature when nature calls…) Ahem.
So, anyway, here we are – finishing touch number one is…
…a fabric picture I made in about 2 seconds. I bought some offcuts of fabric from my local haberdashery shop and then stretched this bit over double-sided tape so that it can be easily attached to the wall. I may make a frame for it but haven’t decided yet. I also think it might not be the best match for the busy wallpaper in the lounge so it may not feature in this house after all. What do you think? Looking at this photograph, I can also see that the picture needs a bit of trimming at the top as it isn’t entirely straight! Whoops!
That’s all I got time for in the way of soft furnishings this week as the furniture took up quite a bit of my time – each of these items took three coats of paint (perhaps not surprising given that they were dark green to start with) and were quite fiddly to do, but I’m pleased with the end result, I wish my bedroom looked like this!
And here we have the before, during and after shots of the kitchen furniture (the rug may or may not stay):
I would like to finish the front (side) door and add a number or house name, I’d also like to have a go at re-upholstering the three piece suite I have for the sitting room area (next to the kitchen) and add a cover and possibly a pillow to the bed. I’ve also bought some air-drying modelling clay so look out for some items made using that next week.
To do list
Things I’d still like to do or add to the house are as follows:
- Window boxes/some form of exterior decoration
- Hang pictures in the lounge
- Fix tap on kitchen unit
- Add curtains to bedroom & possibly to downstairs
- Make food items to dress table
- Get crockery for the table
Let me know if you have any suggestions. I’d love to hear what you all think of the progress to date! It’s definitely easier to make more headway when Daddy-O has evening plans and Tibbons is early to bed – neither of which has happened this week!
